LEMALA TARANGIRE

Amongst the Gentle Giants

A new stylish traditional seasonal camp offering an authentic and intimate safari experience, Lemala Tarangire has a wonderful location near the Kuro Ranger Post deep inside the stunning Tarangire National Park from Jun to Oct. The camp takes advantage of the seasonal game movement from the surrounding areas into Tarangire National Park in the dry season between June and October. At the onset of rains in November, the game disperses back into the surrounding areas including Manyara. For this reason, from Dec to March the camp relocates inside Manyara National Park.

The permanent Tarangire River and the vast Silale swamp are located near the camp and attract large numbers of elephant and buffalo herds together with the big cats and 500 species of birds in the dry season. This allows guests to maximize game viewing opportunities from dawn to dusk. Wildlife also wanders past the camp all day during the dry season, heading towards the river beds or the swamps. The camp offers convenient access to all corners of the park thus Lemala guests can start as early as 6.15am, reach the key areas before other visitors arrive, and have significantly more time for quality game viewing.

Guests are also able to go on guided nature walks from the camp or enjoy al fresco meals and sundowners at camp while watching game saunter past the camp.

Each spacious tent is outfitted with a large single or king-size beds with warm duvets, wooden flooring with rugs, 24-hr solar lighting, and en-suite bathrooms with a dressing area, flush toilet and a great safari shower.

The mess tent is beautifully furnished in a contemporary style with comfortable sofas, lamps, book and corner cabinets, chests and rugs.  In the evening, guests gather around the campfire for sundowners before retiring for dinner under chandeliers hosted by the camp manager. House alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are included at meal times.

About Tarangire National Park

The 2600 sq. km Tarangire National Park lies 120 Kms and 2.5 hours driving distance southwest of Arusha. On the east bank of Lake Manyara the Tarangire River crosses the Tarangire National Park from north to south. In the dry season between June and October the wildlife knows that here there is always water and, in consequence, large numbers of animals including elephant, wildebeest, gazelle, buffalo, eland, zebra and oryx gather at the shrinking pools and drying river bed.

Tarangire also has swampy areas that are green all the year round. This is probably the park for birding - the bird population, centred on the swamps, has 550 bird species, the most breeding species in one habitat anywhere in the world. In the drier areas you find Kori bustards, the heaviest flying bird, and the ground hornbills that bluster like turkeys. Tarangire's pythons climb trees, as do its lions and leopards, lounging in the branches where the fruit of the sausage tree disguises the twitch of a tail!
