LEMALA MANYARA
In the heart of Manyara

Deep inside the park and far from the crowds, Lemala Manyara has an incredibly beautiful location on the edge of an Acacia woodland overlooking the lake. There are virtually no Tsetse flies in this section of the park.

All the tents face the lake and are constantly cooled by the breeze from the lake. Guests are treated to beautiful sunrises, while in the evening they may enjoy sundowners on the lakeshore as the sun sets over the escarpment behind the camp. The area is frequented by elephants, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and even lions which are sometimes attracted by the seasonal waterhole in front of the campfire. There is also a wide variety of birdlife around the camp for the bird enthusiast. Manyara hot springs are easily acccessible from the camp and is often the hangout for buffalo and tree-climbing lions.

Our traditional seasonal safari camp is supremely comfortable and blends into the surroundings. Each spacious tent is fitted with large single or king-size beds with warm duvets, wooden flooring with rugs, 24-hour solar lighting, and en-suite bathrooms with a dressing area, flush toilet and a great safari shower. The mess tent is beautifully furnished with grand sofas, lamps, book shelves and corner cabinets in old wood, chests and rugs.

We recommend a minimum stay of 2 nights as there is plenty to do and enjoy here – day or night game drives, guided walks, sundowners, outdoor meals, birding around the camp, stunning scenery and lakeshore location. There are 5 walking trails to explore around this section of the park. Optional night game drives are also available but need to be booked in advance.

We believe Lemala Manyara has one of the most beautiful spots on the northern circuit. Together with all the activities on offer in a gorgeous, virtually tsetse-free and crowd-free corner of the park, we are sure that you will fall in love with this camp as many previous guests have already done.

About Manyara National Park

Manyara National Park lies between the towering wall of the Great Rift Valley and Lake Manyara. The waters of the lake with its swampy fringes, the ground water forest, the woodland and the scrub combine to provide habitat for a high density of wildlife. Waterfalls tumble from the terracotta cliffs, streams babble and the lions here climb trees to catch the breezes! In the south of Manyara, near the Endabash river, you will find "Maji Moto", literally "hot water". These hot springs bubble up to the surface heated by geothermal activity. This is also the park to visit for tree climbing lions or if you love elephants - a positive plethora of pachyderms may still be found. It was here that Ian and Oria Douglas-Hamilton lived while they gathered material for their major work on the elephant world, "Among the Elephants", and Oria's children's book. Zebra and buffalo graze, monkeys chatter in the forested glades while warthog root underneath and the lake itself hosts hippo (particularly where the river feeds the lake), clouds of flamingo at certain times of year, pelican, cormorant, duck, storks and ibis. The birdlife is wonderful, around four hundred species inhabit the park.
