Manyara National Park

Deep inside the park and far from the crowds, Lemala Manyara is a traditional safari camp with an incredibly beautiful lake-facing location at the edge of an acacia woodland. Guests who stay here love the isolation and the scenery that it offers. There is a constant parade of wildlife passing by – lions, giraffes, elephants, zebras and wildebeest - and the camp has a perfect location for viewing the park’s spectacular birdlife, including flamingo.

Your game viewing starts at the camp and like other Lemala camps, there is no queuing or time wasting at the park gates. You may start your game drive at 6.15am and end at 6.30pm with a cocktail on the lakeshore at sunset and an option to partake in a night game drive after that. The camp also offers early morning or late afternoon lakeshore walks with a resident guide and an armed ranger, which is a great way to stretch your legs and learn more about the wildlife of the park. Lemala Manyara’s location undoubtedly brings out the best of this gem of a park.

The camp consists of 9 comfortable en-suite tents including a family tent which is suitable for 2 adults and 2 children. As all tents face the lake, guests are often treated to beautiful sunrises. Each tent is spacious and has large single or king-size beds with warm duvets. In addition, there is wooden flooring with rugs, 24-hour solar lighting, and en-suite bathrooms with a dressing area, flush toilet and a great safari shower. The mess tent is elegantly furnished with grand sofas, lamps, book cabinets in old wood, chests and rugs. Guests enjoy campfires, communal dinners and bush meals, taking advantage of the outdoor life as much as possible. House beverages are included at meal times.

We highly recommend a minimum stay of 2 nights although there are some guests who would rather spend 3 nights. Whichever you choose, we look forward to sharing our special place with you.

About Manyara National Park

Manyara National Park lies between the towering wall of the Great Rift Valley and Lake Manyara. The waters of the lake with its swampy fringes, the ground water forest, the woodland and the scrub combine to provide habitat for a high density of wildlife. Waterfalls tumble from the terracotta cliffs, streams babble and the lions here climb trees to catch the breezes! In the south of Manyara, near the Endabash river, you will find "Maji Moto", literally "hot water". These hot springs bubble up to the surface heated by geothermal activity. This is also the park to visit for tree climbing lions or if you love elephants - a positive plethora of pachyderms may still be found. It was here that Ian and Oria Douglas-Hamilton lived while they gathered material for their major work on the elephant world, "Among the Elephants", and Oria's children's book. Zebra and buffalo graze, monkeys chatter in the forested glades while warthog root underneath and the lake itself hosts hippo (particularly where the river feeds the lake), clouds of flamingo at certain times of year, pelican, cormorant, duck, storks and ibis. The birdlife is wonderful, around four hundred species inhabit the park.
