Lemala Camps proudly announce the forthcoming opening, on 15th July 2012, of our new permanent tented camp in Northern Serengeti, the ancestral home of the Kuria tribe.

The camp is virtually impossible to find for those not in the know. It is necessary to drive across two secluded valleys fed by streams and punctuated by boulders together with fig and sausage trees. On the way you might spot one of the numerous leopards that prowl in the valleys. On one of our first visits here 3 years ago, James, our guide from Grumeti Expeditions, spotted four leopards within 25 minutes. Over several subsequent visits, we have continued to spot leopards regularly. The abundance of water also attracts elephant, buffalo, bushbuck, zebra, lions and, of course, the wildebeest migration.

Steer the 4x4 round a few bends, then up a hillock towards a ridge and you still won't see the camp. An imposing kopje hides the camp from all. The views from the kopje extend across the tree-lined water courses below to the rolling hills of Wogakuria and the grasslands of Lamai, all the way to the Isuria Escarpment on the Tanzania/Kenya border. The sweeping vistas are simply exquisite.

The location of each of the 15 luxury tents has been carefully selected after 3 years of painstaking groundwork, taking into consideration the wonderful topography, sublime views and stunning wilderness. Each tent is shaded by mature trees or framed by boulders and designed with a raised deck, plunge pool, indoor and outdoor showers and a bath with a view. Two 2-tent clusters are available for families.

The largest of the kopjes on the ridge is where the common area is located, divided into public and private dining areas, sitting areas with log fires and a stunning bar on an upper deck which has arguably the best view in the whole of the Serengeti. Another kopje provides a gorgeous spot for the swimming pool, outdoor massages, barbecues and sundowners.

Kuria Hills camp is in a hauntingly beautiful part of Serengeti, only 30 minutes from the Mara River and the Lamai triangle yet completely concealed. Game drives, walks, bush meals, sundowners, massages, stunning wilderness, great hospitality, luxury tents are all on offer but we also hope to share some of the Kuria tribe's traditions with you. It is a fascinating place to be. See you in July 2012.
