GAME REPORT

LEMALA MARA NORTH SERENGETI

There is currently a very large concentration of wildebeest in the Kogatende area of the Serengeti and along the Mara River. Lemala Mara Camp is magnificently positioned close to the Mara River and guests have been able to witness thousands of wildebeest leaping into the swollen waters of the Mara River. Crocodiles, lions and leopards are capitilizing on the sudden abundance of food in the area. Guests are also enjoying wildebeest and hippo coming into the camp every night to graze outside the tents. Lions are being seen and heard daily around the camp. The Kogatende airstrip which was closed for 2 weeks in June is now open and Lemala Camp guests enjoy a short transfer along the river to the camp in an open 4x4 Land Cruiser.

LEMALA TARANGIRE
On a game drive this week, our resident guide together with his guests saw three leopards on the same day around the Larmakau, Hondondo and Boundary areas. They also spotted six wild dogs and watched them for more than forty minutes. That evening they also saw an elephant herd of three hundred strong in the Silale Swamp. Elephants are now regulalry passing through the camp every night browsing on the acacia trees. Lemala Tarangire has perhaps the best location out of all the camps, close to the Silale Swamp, the Tarangire River and the Kuro airstrip. With walks and night game drives now available, it does offer guests a superb safari experience.

LEMALA NGORONGORO

There is still a lot of water in the crater and rhino sightings are still common. A resident family of elephants can be seen almost daily from the camp as they forage in the red-thorn acacia forest which surrounds the camp. Buffalo usually visit the camp late at night and disappear deeper into the forest early morning. The forest is especially good for birders providing very good sightings of the forest species.

LEMALA EWANJAN SERONERA VALLEY

A large number of zebras are camped outside the camp on the plains. Lions continue to pass in front of the camp day and night and guests have witnessed them while enjoying their breakfast. There are a large number of lions in the Seronera area and with most of the big wildebeest and zebra herds having moved northwards, lions are now turning their gaze onto the gazelles. Lemala Ewanjan has a spectacular, secluded location with a magnificent view across the plains towards distant hills and amazing sunsets. Guests love the sundowners by the camp fire - simply magical.
