LEMALA CAMP DECEMBER NEWS

22 December 2010

The seasonal camps which moved at the end of October to their new locations until the end of the season are now up and running and clients are already enjoying the perfect locations in which these camps are situated. The northern Serengeti camp which was located on the Mara River has moved to Ndutu within the NCAA area overlooking a beautiful marsh, and the Tarangire camp is now inside the National Park of Lake Manyara just on the other side of the Endabash River situated under large Acacias on the lake shore. Lemala Ewanjan, the central Serengeti camp as well as Lemala Ngorongoro remain at their locations until the middle of April.

A new menu has been introduced at all of the camps and visitors can now also taste the traditional dishes of Zanzibar, the Swahili Coast as well as dishes from  the various parts of Tanzania. These dishes are served as an appetizer and compliment the entrees.

Traditional Christmas dinner of stuffed roast turkey served with roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables followed by Christmas Pudding dessert will be served at all the camps and the New Year will be brought in with a complimentary glass of champagne.

LEMALA NDUTU
The herds of wildebeest and zebra are already in the Ndutu area but are only seen at the moment in small numbers. The large herds are moving around between Moru and Olbaye within the Serengeti National Park. Cheetah sightings have been reported from our camp as well as some lions and a solitary leopard.

Lemala Ndutu now offers the new larger tents as well as a large dining and lounge area. As per Lemala standards, clients enjoy 5 star hotel quality mattresses, wooden floors, 24 hour lighting and en suit bathrooms with flush toilets, running water and hot showers.

LEMALA EWANJAN
With the rains now having fallen over a large area, central Serengeti is no exception and an emerald green carpet of short grass now surrounds the camp. The pride of lions of that area, are now daily visitors to the camp and they can be seen at night or in the early morning wandering between the tents. For the clients, this is the ultimate safari adventure and there is great excitement amongst the guests, culminating in animated story swopping around the fire whilst clients enjoy sundowners and around the dining table afterwards whilst enjoying exquisite gourmet dishes.

LEMALA MANYARA
Our location here is really turning out to be a sensation amongst the clients. Based on the tree line under huge acacias on the lake shore, every tent has a lake view. Clients wake up to early morning views of thousands of pelicans and flamingoes in front of their tents, whilst giraffe and elephant browse in the trees nearby. Herds of buffalo, zebra, waterbuck and wildebeest also wander down to graze on the short grasses on the lake shore. Manyara is a birder’s paradise and the camp is perfectly located on the ecotone to take full advantage of the diversity of species which Manyara has to offer. There is also a place quite near to the camp where the famous “tree climbing lions” of Manyara have one of their preferred resting places and clients are often being rewarded by seeing the whole pride sleeping in these Acacia trees. There is still no explanation why these big cats do this, but then again, they are cats, and cats do climb trees.

Night drives are now in full swing from our camp in Manyara and clients are enjoying seeing the nocturnal animals which are not normally seen during the day.

LEMALA NGORONGORO
The crater is once again green after all the rains and the rhino are being seen on a regular bases. Elephant and buffalo are still regular visitors to the camp and can be seen close by during the day or heard from inside the tents at night as they graze and browse close to the tents. The dances and informative talks given by the local Masai Chief’s son and family are very popular with the Lemala Ngorongoro clients as they get to interact with the family on a personal level.

Walking in the forest from the camp is also a must, offering the very best that the forest has to offer as well as magnificent views of the crater from various strategic vantage points.
