CHANGES FOR 2012

Lemala Tarangire closes and Lemala Manyara stays open all year except April and May.

We have decided to close Lemala Tarangire for 2012 and base ourselves inside Manyara National Park throughout the year except April and May when we will close the camp for the long rains.

We have taken this decision based on the feedback we have received from guests, many of whom feel that the combination of exceptional service and staff, spectacular lake-facing location on the edge of an Acacia woodland (teeming with wildlife and birdlife), a real wilderness camp setting far from the daily crowds and tsetse flies, and the numerous activities on offer all make Lemala Manyara one of the most endearing and exciting camps in Northern Tanzania. See some of the guest comments below and please do come and experience for yourself when we re-open around mid-November 2011.  It is truly a special camp with a phenomenal setting!

We even have our own seasonal waterhole in front of the camp that has attracted elephants, zebra, wildebeest and lions and hyaena too. Giraffe and zebra wander past on a daily basis.  There is superb variety of birdlife around the camp and on the lake for the bird enthusiast.

Ernest Hemingway described Lake Manyara as the loveliest lake he had seen in Africa and it is easy to see why.  Guests are often treated to incredibly beautiful sunrises, while in the evening they may enjoy spectacular sunsets and skies above the escarpment behind the camp.

All the tents face the lake and are constantly cooled by the breeze from the lake. These ‘classic’ tents are still some of the most comfortable mobile tents on the northern circuit - similar to Lemala Ngorongoro’s, with an en-suite bathroom containing a flush toilet and safari shower, 24-hr solar power, extra large single or double beds, wooden platform with rugs and an outdoor verandah with safari chairs. For those who love a bit of a tan, we are thinking of placing a few loungers along the long sandy beach in front of the camp!

We recommend a minimum stay of 2 nights here as there is plenty to do and enjoy here – day or night game drives, guided walks, sundowners, outdoor meals, birding around the camp, stunning scenery, beach... We have decided to include one guided walk along the lake per stay so that you not only have a chance to stretch your legs but also learn about Manyara’s rich bio-diversity in the company of the camp’s naturalist and an armed ranger. And there is no better way to end the morning walk than with a full English breakfast on the lakeshore.

Additional walks and night game drives are available at extra cost. There are 5 walking trails to explore around this section of the park.

We truly believe your guests will love Lemala Manyara . Please follow the link below for the new Lemala Manyara brochure and see for yourself.

LEMALA NDUTU, MARA AND EWANJAN – NEW TENTS
Please note that we have new tents in all our Serengeti/Ndutu camps as from Jan 2011 as shown below.  The mess tents are now larger and include a bar which has become a popular ‘watering hole’ in the evenings.

Lemala Ngorongoro/Tarangire for 2011 season/Manyara will have the ‘classic’ tents.

LEMALA CHEFS UNDERGO TRAINING
This season Lemala chefs have had excellent feedback from guests on the quality of the meals they have produced from their camps but the chefs are determined to keep improving. Soon after the camps closed for the season, they travelled to Nairobi for a week long masterclass by a Swiss chef who introduced them to new flavour combinations and exciting ways to present their food. They look forward to showing off their new skills when the camps reopen in June.
